The SMEs field presents, on balance, deficiencies gaps in the information technologies area. This is due to the strong focus given to the topics related to business growth during the initial stages of any company, which often result in a neglect in the strategic alignment that must exist among the different functions of it.

A study of this problem has led us to define three critical points in which information technologies can be applied successfully to improve the way SMEs operate, to become part of the comprehensive solution previously raised, and must be evaluated from a strategic point of view:
